So one night I was driving home and Elly asked me if she could make herself dinner. I guess I should add that lately she is wanting to be very independent...taking showers by herself, getting dressed by herself, you get my point. So I took a deep breathe and told her okay.
We get home, get settled and she told me what she wanted...pb&j (naturally) so I got her the peanut butter down, bread, jelly, a butter knife and a napkin. She pulled her stool over and went to town.
She was super excited that she was making her own dinner. I let her be and after a few failed attempts at spreading the pb&j evenly she asked for help. Sometimes being a Mommy is hard at keeping your hands behind your back, your mouth shut and just letting things be. But of course being right there to step in when asked.
After the sandwich was made she asked for a banana, baby carrots and a yogurt to complete her meal. She ate most of it leaving the baby carrots for Mommy to finish. Eh at least she wanted them...makes me proud. So I challenge you Mommy and Daddy's to see what your kids would make for dinner...and let them make it. Have a fab Tofu Tuesday!

lol what a love! Jared is all about making his own toast these days. drives me bananas because the butter ends up totally full of crumbs since he hasn't mastered getting just the right amount out the first scoop (and pretty much mutilates his toast in the process of spreading the butter). But like you said, it's our job to stand back and let them learn these skills!
I DID stand back. Mom
Can I say that i LOVE that she wanted a PB & J sandwich!? I like this girl!!!!
What a cutie! She looks so proud of her creation.
